The Rural Community Development Project
The Rural Community Development project aims to:
- encourage rural communities in West Lancashire to get involved in steering local policies and activities that address issues of local concern.
- help rural communities through the process of conducting community audits to produce local Village or Parish Plans to highlight and address the needs of the community.
How it works
Rural communities are helped to set out their future vision for their parishes and to identify issues of concern using the REAL (Rural Evaluation and Action for Lancashire) process. This involves holding interactive workshops with community groups and the issue and analysis of a detailed questionnaire addressing a range of topics including travel and access, housing, crime and safety, social and recreation facilities, health and care, employment and income, environment and conservation, and adult education.
Action Groups are then formed from willing local residents to try and tackle the issues and concerns raised as part of the community consultation - such as the lack or loss of village amenities, public transport, or road safety issues. Through these Action Groups, several parishes audited to date have started to address a number of long-standing local issues.
